A ROMAN MARBLE STATUE OF A YOUNG BOY
Circa Second Half of the 1st Century A.D.
Perhaps a young Dionysus, the paunchy figure standing on a integral base with a support to the left, wearing a tunic of thick material, with short-sleeves, seams and tassels, the tunic slipping from his left shoulder, his bent right arm raised to his chest, clutching the upper edge of his garment, his lowered left elbow clamping a bunch of drapery to his body, forming shelf-like folds in heavy catenaries as the garment is pulled up to his side above his knees, his left hand holding a bunch of grapes, his pudgy stomach modelled through his taut garment, his navel indicated, his head lowered with rounded chubby features, with lidded almond-shaped eyes, the fleshy lips slightly parted, and short curly hair bound in a twisted fillet
