A ROMAN BRONZE FIGURE OF MINERVA
Circa 1st Century A.D.
The goddess standing with her right leg advanced, her left knee bent, the heel raised, her right arm lowered, the hand fisted around a now-missing attribute (a sword?), the left arm bent at the elbow, wearing a peplos below a mantle that drapes diagonally across her waist and over her left arm, the snakey aegis flowing over her shoulders, the Medusa head centered on her chest, wearing her Corinthian helmet high on her head, the sides with incised scrolling centered by silver inlay, the crown of the helmet with a mortise for attachment of a now-missing crest, her eyes inlaid with silver, on a square plinth with an ovolo molding at its upper edge and a dotted inscription on the front panel
