TWO ROMAN MARBLE SARCOPHAGUS FRAGMENTS
Circa 3rd Century A.D.
The larger with a fleshy female figure reclining on a rock, her head turned to her left, wearing a mantle draped around her lower body, her right arm carrying a pine branch, her left hand holding an open vessel from which issues flowing liquid, her wavy hair pulled back into a knot, with a partially preserved figure of Eros to the right, and large pine branches with pinecones to the left above a partially preserved hand and fore-arm holding drapery; the smaller, which joins to the above on the lower right edge, with a nude Eros moving to the right, his head turned back looking over his left shoulder, with a fleshy torso and spread wings, his hair a mass of short curly locks
