A PALMYRENE LIMESTONE BUST OF A WOMAN
Circa Mid 2nd Century A.D.
From a funerary relief, the deceased depicted wearing a tunic below a cloak which is pinned with a rosette brooch on her left shoulder, the cloak pulled up over her head like a veil, her left hand holding the cloak at her left shoulder, her right arm folded along her waist, a decorative diadem across her forehead, her hair pulled back from the center and bound in a cloth above, wearing pendant earrings, the oval face with a straight nose, sharp arching brows and thin dimpled chin, the lidded eyes with incised pupils, with an inscription to the right identifying the deceased, some traces of pigment preserved
