Lot Essay

The Villa Nova was built in Dumbarton, 1823 for the owner John Mitchell of Glasgow. The vessel was a brig of 183 registered tonnes and had a loaded draught of 12ft. Captain A P Stevens was the Master of the Villa Nova for several years, however she appears to have had several masters. She traded mainly out of Glasgow, to Spain, Portugal and the Mediteranean between 1853 and 1868.
