The matt silvered dial signed ULYSSE NARDIN LE LOCLE SUISSE and with painted Arabic numerals with lacquered blued steel hour and minute hands, up-and-down and seconds ring numbered 8077 (in red), the frosted gilt movement with tandem-wound twin spring going barrels, Earnshaw escapement with cut bimetallic guillaume balance with circular heat compensation weights and polished steel helical spring, flat strip steel spring detent with jewelled locking stone, the 'scape and third wheels in jewelled settings, the top plate punched with the Ulysse Nardin crest and numbered 8077, the bowl stamped INCA 5429 and signed Ulysse Nardin, the brass-bound three-tier box with brass drop handles to the sides, the mid section with rectangular white metal plaque engraved ULYSSE NARDIN LE LOCLE (Suisse), the bottom tier with circular plaque engraved 8077; with the original OBSERVATOIRE ASTRONOMIQUE ET CHRONOMéTRIQUE BULLETIN DE MARCHE dated 3 Septembre 1962 and with the original bill of sale; original mahogany guard box

The present marine chronometer is sold with its original documentation including letters from Ulysse Nardin confirming Mr William A Johnson's order for a large size marine chronometer of eight-day duration received on 3 November 1961 and acknowledged by Ulysse Nardin on 10 November 1961 under the premise that it would cost Sfr 2350 and take between nine to ten months for delivery. Also included are the original bill of sale dated 19 September 1962 with the full description including the official rating certificate from the Neuchatel Astronomical Observatory. Mr Johnson was extended a 5 discount for pre-payment.
