Lot Essay

The present chronometer was supplied and fitted with an extra key which fits the canon pinion to adjust the hands. This is most unusual, normally the chronometer is provided only with a winding key which is purposely too big for the canon pinion in order to prevent unwanted adjustment of the hands. It seems likely that No. 49600 was supplied as a 'special', perhaps for a private vessel.
