The case with conjoined scroll pediment and thumb-nail mouldings framing the glazed dial, the flat front mounted with a mercury thermometer with silvered scale, large bore mercury glass tube with large ebonised urn-shaped cistern cover, the silvered main dial with twin Vernier scales and signed J. FRENCH Royal Exchange London

Lot Essay

French, Santiago James Moore. A Freeman of the Clockmakers' Company in 1810-1840, French was a clockmaker of renown. He advertised in Spanish and sold in New York as well as London. He is recorded at 14-15 Sweetings Alley, Royal Exchange, between the years 1822-39.
