A George III green and gilt japanned longcase clock

The case on double-footed base (later) supporting a plinth decorated with a chinoiserie scene with raised gilt and silvered figures toiling in a field against a village landscape, the breakarch door decorated in a similar manner with domestic scenes within an ebonised and gilt moulding and further foliate gilt decoration, the hood with brass-capped three-quarter columns supporting a (later) caddy top with brass ball-and-spire finials and later pierced wood sound frets, the 12 in. wide dial signed Jn. Meredith London on a silvered plaque in the matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring and calendar aperture, silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with pierced blued steel hands, foliate rocaille spandrels, strike/silent ring in the arch, the five pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement
