The case with brass handle to the inverted bell top with two urn finials (two lacking), the sides with foliate pierced brass frets engraved with baskets of fruit, shallow breakarch doors and on concave moulded gilt-metal block feet to the front and later oak feet to the rear, the brass dial signed W: Smith. LONDON in the arch above the Roman and Arabic chapter ring with mock pendulum aperture to the centre, later steel hands, the small movement with six (one now lacking) pillars securing the rectangular brass plates, twin fusees (wire lines), original pivoted verge escapement with short bob pendulum, rack strike on a bell above the backplate engraved with profuse scrolling foliage centred by a basket of fruit; the movement secured by a single steel bolt through the base of the case
