The case inlaid with bird-and-floral marquetry to the plinth within a boxwood line-inlaid border, later ebonised bun feet, ebonised mouldings to the rectangular trunk door inlaid with bird-and-floral marquetry in D-ended panels to the lower section, the middle section unusually inlaid with a heron with flowers and foliage, the rising hood similarly decorated with floral marquetry to the front and flanked by ebonised twist columns, the 10 in. square dial signed Daniel Quare London beneath the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with elaborately pierced steel hands, the matted centre with small diameter seconds ring and calendar aperture, the movement with five ringed pillars, anchor escapement and outside countwheel strike on a bell
