The narrow case with ringed handle, with glazed side panels and door to the front, the gilt brass mask engraved with a monogram and inscribed PAT. MAY 21 1878 below a silvered chapter ring with skeletonized centre, with blued steel hands, the single barrel movement with key-less wind from the rear plate, with Long Wind watch type carriage rotating once an hour with the minute hand -- 4¼in. (10.75cm.) high to hilt of handle; with original red leather travel case with brass lined circular aperture to the front

The movement has a rotating carriage, which is visible through the dial, effectively acting as a tourbillon. The hands are independently set.
