The silvered scale within glazed tube and calibrated 24-32in., signed Casella London 4585 and also inscribed C.M.O. 1798 (Commonwealth Metereological Office), the painted iron lower tube with alcohol thermometer, hanging from a wooden backboard -- 48in. (122cm.) high

Lot Essay

This barometer was patented by R.M. Abraham in 1937 and put on the market by Casella, the firm of which he was managing director. For a diagrammatic explanation of its functions see W.E. Knowles Middleton The History of The Barometer, Baros Books, 1964, p.212.
