A George III oak and mahogany cross-banded longcase clock, circa 1780
The hood with stepped lunette cresting centred by a brass ball and eagle finial, with pilasters to the front, with mahogany cross-banded trunk door with breakarch top, on stepped plinth (later base), the 12in. gilt-brass dial with urn and foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with inverted arrow half hour markers, signed Ann Pigott Nottingham, the matted centre with recessed silvered seconds disc with engraved centre and elaborately arched date aperture, the arch with cut out circlet with painted iron back plate (now painted with a ship), formerly for rocking ship, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement, with later seatboard, dial and movement possibly associated to the case -- 92in. (234cm.) high
