Lot Essay

These vases are derived from the model by Claude Michel Clodion, based on a design by François Boucher. A pair of vases of this model created in terracotta is in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg while a single example in white marble is in the James A. de Rothschild collection, Waddeston Manor, (see A. Pulet & G. Schert, Clodion, 1992, pp. 78-86).
