4 parts in one volume, small 4° (231 x 175mm.), half title, engraved title by J. Swelinck, engraved portrait of the author by H. Goltzius, 50 engraved emblems in parts one and two, divisional titles to parts three and four with vignettes, 6 engraved plates (small hole in Gg1 in pt. III and b4 in pt. IV affecting one letter, some light browning and spotting), contemporary mottled calf, double fillet border and small central floral motif on sides, repeated on spine, raised bands, sprinkled edges (head of spine chipped, extremities quite rubbed). Provenance: Frank Linsly James (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION. A poetic miscellany of which the first two parts containing the emblems are the most substantial. While the main text is in Dutch, the mottos and introductory verses are in French. Landwehr Low Countries 208; Praz p. 79.
