Small 4° (212 x 155mm.), half title, engraved frontispiece portrait of Rabelais, 60 engraved plates by C. N. Malapeau, all with good margins (very lightly browned and occasional light spotting), red morocco by Marius Michel, gilt spine with raised bands, gilt inner fillets, gilt edges. Provenance: DMC (monogram on bookplate).
An attractive collection of grotesques, many of which are of an anti-Catholic nature, first published in 1565. Brunet IV, 1064; cf. Cohen-de-Ricci 843.
