8° (212 x 140mm.), half title, engraved frontispiece, 4 engraved plates and 4 headpieces, all by Baquoy after Eisen (half title faintly browned), 19th-century crimson morocco by F. Bedford, triple fillet border on sides, spine with raised bands, lettered in two compartments, the others with central floral tool and foliate cornerpieces, gilt board-edges and turn-ins, gilt edges.

FIRST EDITION. Eisen, ranked only second to Moreau by Cohen among the four masters of French rococo book illustration, "excelled in voluptuous subjects and knew how to give an inexpressible charm to everything which makes women attractive" (Ray). Cohen-de-Ricci 1073; Ray French, p. 51.
