VOLTAIRE, François Marie Arouet de (1694-1778). Candid: or, all for the best, London: J. Nourse [part II: for T. Beckett and P.A. de Hondt], 1759-1766. 2 parts in one volume, 12° (169 x 100mm.), half title, with advertisment leaf in part II (lower corner of second title torn away, lightly soiled), contemporary sprinkled calf, double fillets on sides (head and tail of spine chipped, spine lightly worn, joints cracked). Provenance: David Clement (scored inscription on half title); Tho. Carpenters (signature on half title). Second edition. The second part was not written by Voltaire but probably by Henri-Joseph Dulaurens (only one location in ESTC for part II).
