2 volumes 4° (273 x 176mm.), titles in red and black with coloured vignette by Cecil Aldin, numerous coloured illustrations by Aldin, topographical views and maps (occasional light spotting) [bound with:] Charles Johnson's The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club [London, 1887], EXTRA ILLUSTRATED with plates from this and other works, original brown half morocco, upper covers with vellum onlay containing a gilt-stamped portrait of Pickwick after Cecil Aldin, gilt spines with raised bands, top edges gilt. Provenance: Arthur W. Waters and Kathleen Francis Waters (bookplates and a related, laid down inscription on front free endpaper in vol. I). Podeschi p. 157.

The extra illustrations include a set of 22 proof steel engravings published by Newman ca. 1840, and coloured plates after Frank Reynolds and A. B. Frost. In addition there is an ORIGINAL PORTRAIT DRAWING OF PICKWICK BY CHARLES EDMUND BROCK ON EACH HALF TITLE, signed by the artist and dated 1921; with a letter from Brock to Mr Waters thanking him for the commission and settlement of the account for £30.
