Alexander von HUMBOLDT. 2 autograph letters signed, to unidentified correspondents, Berlin, 3 January 1856 and 7 May 1857, the first introducing a young astronomer, the second concerning the foundation of an oriental library and mentioning David Livingstone and Sir Roderick Murchison, 3 pages, 8vo;
and letters by Rahel Varnhagen von Ense (fragment of a journal, in French), Detlev von Liliencron, Berthold Auerbach, August von Kotzebue, Emanuel Geibel (2 letters), Ferdinand Freiligrath, Ernst von Wildenbruch (including an autograph manuscript signed of a poem, 9 pages, 8vo), Friedrich Spielhagen, Ludwig Uhland, Franz Freiherr von Dingelstedt, August Wilhelm Iffland, Richard Dehmel, Stefan Zweig (2 letters signed to Dr Fritz Bamberger, 1930-31, advising on the formation of the present collection), and a number of others; and a carte-de-visite portrait photograph signed by Fieldmarshal Helmuth von MOLTKE (torn across and repaired);
