RILKE, Rainer Maria (1875-1926). Autograph letter signed to an unidentified correspondent, Schloss Berg am ?Tickel, Zurich, 24 December 1920, 4 pages, 4to, on a bifolium.
Rilke's constant travelling - in Italy, in Paris and now Switzerland - has delayed his answering a letter; the enthusiastic reception accorded his books, in particular the Stundebuch (1905), his own favourite, keeps him busy; and after the destruction of the last six years, which were a shock of isolation and worry after his former international existence, he is in need of peace and quiet. He suggests his correspondent take up a diary and send him instalments.
