(26.5cm.) long, 1930s (worn), a Steiff Lions cub with artificial-silk plush, orange and black glass eyes, swivel head and seated --7in. (18cm.) high and a Steiff 1950s Lioness seated --4in. (10cm.) high; and 'Henry', a Steiff teddy bear with beige mohair, brown and black glass eyes, brown stitched nose and mouth, swivel head and jointed limbs --5¾in. (14.5cm.) high, 1950s (some wear and patch to right arm)

Lot Essay

Uncle Leo's Lions were given to their original owner Harry Donaldson (born in the 1920s) by his Uncle Leo. The older lions when he was a small boy and the little one, as a joke, on the eve of his wedding, when Harry was in his 30's.

Henry's original owner had an operation to remove a birthmark from her lower right arm. While she was in hospital her younger brother performed the same operation on Henry. Under his felt patch he has a smooth round hole, it was done with his fathers' razor blade.
