A fine late 19th-Century single-circle lacquered and marble-finished brass optical goniometer,
unsigned, with two telescopes, each with micrometer fine vertical adjustment, one with adjustable aperture, the viewing telescope with rack and pinion focusing, the oxidised-brass circle stage with specimen clamp tightening screw and sprung screw adjustment, with three turning handles and clamp, counterweight for the viewing telescope, over the brass graduated circle with silvered scale, twin verniers and magnifiers and clamp, on a pierced circular cast-iron stand with three adjustable screw feet, contained in the original pine carrying case with brass handle and a spare prism -- 19½in. (49.5cm.) wide
