including an English silvered-metal example, surmounted with a brass figure of a physician, above overhanging openwork gothic tracery, the inscribed cylindrical stem descending to an openwork triform base -- 13 1/8in. (33.3cm.) high; a serpentine black, red and brown marble pillar with an ivorine scale and mercury thermometer, surmounted by a compass and with serpentine green, black and red marble curved plinth base --6in. (15.2cm.) high; a thermometer mounted on a copper Egyptian needle with engraved hieroglyphics, on an image of a pharoah, the base with further hieroglyphics and balled feet, on a green and white verigated marble plinth --7½in.
