A late 19th-Century oxidised-brass surveying theodolite,
signed on the silvered compass dial Stanley, Gt. Turnstile, Holborn, London, No. 7498, the telescope with graduated bubble level, rack and pinion focusing, lens hood, dust cap and slide, with four wire adjusters, eyepiece extension tube, the vertical circle with two verniers and magnifiers, raised on twin A-frame supports, one engraved Bury Commissioners, with level and cross-bubble, the compass with edge-bar needle and clamp, the horizontal silvered chamfered circle with two verniers, tangent-screw fine adjustment and clamp, on four-screw tripod mounting, in carrying case -- 17¾in. (45cm.) wide
