BODEGAS MARQUES DE MURRIETA
The Marqués de Murrieta founded his winery in 1852. Inspired by the wine-makers of Bordeaux, he created wines that quickly established the Bodega as one of the region's leading producers.
The wines that to be offered in this sale represent both the traditional and the innovative siders of the winery. The Castillo Ygay Reserva Especial is the flagship wine of the winery. It is only made from the best quality fruit in the finest years. The 1970 is a blend of 75 Tempranillo, 10 Garnacha, 12 Mazuelo and 3 Graciano. It was fermented in 18,000 litre barrels for 15 days, with constant skin contact. The wine was aged in 225 litre American oak casks for 312 months.
Dalmau represents a new departure for the Bodega. The wine is different in style from Castillo Ygay and is designed to age in bottle rathertha nspending long periods of time in oak. Only 24,000 bottles are made each year and the wine is a blend of 85 Tempranillo, 10 Cabenet Sauvignon and 5 Graciano. All the grapes come from superb plots in the Ygay estate that were planted in the 1960's.
