Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Hans-Ulrich Beck for his assistance in cataloguing this lot. Dr. Beck notes that the picture has always been regarded as an autograph work by Salomon van Ruysdael, and that the date of 1632 fits exactly with Salomon's style of that time. However the picture's condition demands a qualified attribution. Dr. Beck, judging from a photograph when with Capricorne, has stated his belief that 'the picture is without doubt by Salomon van Ruysdael'.
