Lot Essay

Pieter Casteels II followed his father in becoming a master of the Guild of Saint Luke in 1673/4. Unlike his father he specialised in marine and seaport scenes, influenced by the work of Frans Boudewijns, Pieter Bout and Mattijs Schoevaerdts, of which this picture is typical.
