Lot Essay

This derives from a composition by Pittoni, of which six different autograph variants are known; that in the Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart, is generally considered the prime (see F Zava Boccazzi, Pittoni, Venice, 1979, nos. 108, 162, 181 and 187, pls. 248, 250, 251 and 252).
