Pierce served under the Confederate flag during the Civil War, after which he rounded up and sold whole herds of mavericks. He was a participant in the famous South Texas feud between the Suttons and the Taylors, and rode with Sutton's "Regulators", during which time he had several encounters with Wyatt Earp and the Taylors most famous ally John Wesley Hardin. Over the course of his career he managed to bring more than 1,000,000 acres under his control. "My daughter (Mamie F. Pierce) being a stock holder in 'The Pierce Sullivan Pasture and Cattle Company' and me expect to hold a meeting in San Antonio soon. I desire you to write out a P/A from her to handle and vote her shares by proxy. Send to me immediately. Will it be necessary for her to sign it before a notary, or will 2 witnesses do?
