Manuscript receipt book of Madrona Marades, widow of Pere Marades, of the parish of St. Andrew of Palomar, diocese of Barcelona, recording payments made 1626-1666 to the mensa episcopalis of Barcelona, the monastery of S. Geronima de Murta, the monastery of S. Pau del Campo and other institutions, from various lands in the parish of St. Andrew of Palomar, the parish of St. Coloma de Gramanet, the chapel of St. Bartholomew of Canyelles, etc. Region of Barcelona, mid 17th century. Manuscript on paper, 203 x 151mm. (8 x 5 7/8in.), 4to, 193 (of 194) leaves. (Lacking the leaf numbered 30, slight worming to first and last leaves, first leaf lacks bottom margin, several leaves frayed at edges, slight waterstains in upper margins, some foxing.) Written in many cursive hands, in Catalan. Original wallet-style flap binding of limp vellum cut from a leaf of a large-format manuscript antiphonal; tacket sewing visible on spine; leather toggle and vellum loop closure. Created as a girdle book to be carried by a vellum thong attached to the top of the cover, front and back; the free strap now lacking, but the laced-in portions remain.
