Hand-colored in outline engraved map of Japan, single sheet, 357 x 486 mm, the map showing the islands of Japan, the "island" of Korea and the coast of China, the sea embellished with three ships. Latin text on verso. (Very minor small spots of foxing in margin.) First state, with the lower left corner of plate intact. Matted and framed (not examined outside of frame). Based on a map sent to Ortelius in 1592 by the Portuguese cartographer Luis Teixeira, which was itself based on an unknown source. Koeman Ort 28, no. 8; van den Broecke 165.
