It is possible to trace the route that Barry Jun. took during this study trip. He is at Bristol Cathedral on 27 April 1843, travelling onto Somerset, then Wells Cathedral and Glastonbury Abbey, before arriving in Taunton on 6 May 1843.

The design for Birmingham Grammar school was the first project which Barry and Pugin collaborated on. The school has since been demolished, however the vaulted ceiling depicted on the plan survives intact as part of King Edward VI School, Edgbaston, Birmingham.

We are grateful to Lady Alexandra Wedgwood for her help in preparing this catalogue entry.
