Sapper John McNaughton was one of eight Royal Sappers and Miners awarded the 'Egypt' clasp. Following these operations under Abercrombie, he returned home and was employed in constructing the famous anti-invasion Martello Towers on the Sussex coast. He later served in Newfoundland before being discharged from the Army with a pension on 24.1.1815. McNaughton died in Woolwich in 1853, aged 83 years.
