Lot Essay

Private Charles James William Waddington was born at Sandhurst in 1865 and enlisted in the Manchester Regiment as a Boy Recruit in December 1880, aged 15 years. Subsequently embarked for the East Indies, he went to earn three clasps unique to his Regiment while attached to the Telegraph Department, his respective dates of entry into these Theatres of War being June 1886, July 1887 and November 1889.
