Lot Essay

Serjeant Benjamin Cragg was born in Loughborough in Leicestershire and enlisted in the 94th Foot in Dublin in 1857, aged 16 years. Shortly thereafter transferring to the 2nd Foot, he was appointed a Drummer following his services in China, advanced to Corporal in 1866 and to Sergeant in 1869. Cragg was awarded his L.S. and G.C. in 1877 and was discharged at Colchester two years later.
