Lot Essay

Private Harold Woolams, a Birmingham man, first entered the French Theatre of War in late July 1915 and is verified as having been awarded the Croix de Guerre for services with the 10th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment (London Gazette 29.1.1919 refers). As part of 57th Brigade, 19th Division, the Battalion had been heavily employed on the Somme from July to November 1916.
