The Silver Fire Medal and Certificate of Thanks were awarded to Fire Brigade Inspector William Wynn, Police Sergeant Harry Smith and Mr. Robert Stannard King, and the Bronze Fire Medal and Certificate of Thanks were awarded to Mr. Henry Graham and Charles Joseph Harvey, in connection with the rescue of two boys aged 4 and 2½ years from the dwelling house, 33 Standish Street, Liverpool, which was on fire, on the 16.3.1927:

'About 9 p.m. the Fire Brigade received word of the fire and immediately turned out. Upon arrival the middle front room, 1st floor, was found to be well alight and they were informed that children were in the house. Inspector Wynn and Sergeant Smith mounted the stairs and entered the room on fire. The Inspector knocked out the window to modify the heat and the Sergeant searched the room, finding a child (2½) on the bed by the wall, a picture, the cord of which had burnt through, having fallen on the child. The first branch man at the same time was extinguishing the fire and had it not been for the water which was being played into the room and on to the Sergeant from the door, both he and the Inspector would have collapsed, as they were affected by the intense heat. The child was passed down the stairs and taken into a neighbour's house, pending the arrival of the Ambulance. The other rooms were searched by the Sergeant but no one was found to be inside, and the fire was extinguished.

Previous to the arrival of the Fire Brigade the boy (4) had been rescued by a neighbour, Robert Stannard King, who rushed into the room and grabbed the boy from the bed, but before he could get out of the room, he collapsed with the child, and was pulled out of the room by the legs by Henry Graham, and but for Graham, King would have been badly burnt, and might have lost his life. King and the child were then passed down the stairs. Harvey, one of the first on the scene, ran up the stairs, and found the mother of the 2 children on the landing, and succeeded in getting her down the stairs, afterwards returning to do what he could, but collapsed and was conveyed with the 2 children to the Northern Hospital. The 2 children, unfortunately, died during the night from shock, following the burns'.
