Lot Essay

M.M. London Gazette 23.7.1919.

Lieutenant and Quarter-Master George C.L. Hall, M.M., a Birmingham man, first entered the French Theatre of War as a Private in the Warwickshire Regiment in late June 1915. Decorated for his subsequent services with the 8th Battalion, he sometime thereafter transferred to the Royal Artillery and, as verified by his P.R.O. MIC entry, ended his career in the rank of Lieutenant and Quarter-Master. The same source also states that the above listed awards were 're-issued' to him in May 1943, although those actually described have all the hallmarks of being his original awards.
