M.V.O. London Gazette 10.8.1931.
Mention in Despatches London Gazette 3.10.1944. Recommendation states 'This Officer has completed three years as Ocean Commodore for all but two months, and now that he is leaving the Liverpool Pool, his name is forwarded in view of his good services as Commodore'.
Captain Edward Conyngham Denison, M.V.O., was born in London in September 1888 and passed out of Britannia as a Midshipman in September 1904. Joining H.M.S. Drake in April 1905, he appears to have been awarded his Spanish Medal for Lifesaving while employed in one of her boats in the rescue of some men off Algeciras in February 1906. Denison was advanced to Sub. Lieutenant in February 1908 and to Lieutenant in October 1910, and enjoyed a number of other seagoing appointments before the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914. During the period 1917-18 he held several commands and his promotion to Lieutenant-Commander was confirmed in October of the latter year.
Between the Wars, among other appointments, he served aboard the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert, being awarded the M.V.O. and advanced to Captain, and as Officer-in-Charge of the Naval Establishments in Bermuda and Malta. Denison was officially placed on the Retired List in July 1941, but was immediately advanced to Commodore 2nd Class, R.N.R. for services in convoys operating out of Liverpool. He finished the War on attachment to the Royal Indian Navy in the Bay of Bengal. The Captain died in November 1960.
