Lot Essay

D.F.M. London Gazette 13.3.1942. Recommendation states 'This Airman has carried out his duties as a Wireless Operator Air Gunner on numerous operations. He has participated in attacks on the main enemy targets including Berlin, Wilhelmshaven, Hamburg, Kiel and Brest. Throughout he has displayed great keenness and enthusiasm whatever the conditions and he has set and maintained the highest standard in his duties both in the air and on the ground. His courage and devotion to duty has been most noteworthy'.

Flight Sergeant Mervyn John William Skinner, D.F.M., had completed 29 sorties with No. 58 Squadron by the time of the above Recommendation. In addition to the targets mentioned above, he participated in raids on Cologne on no less than four occasions and on Bremen on three occasions.
