4o (183 x 133 mm). Collation: Aa-Cc8 Dd10. 34 leaves. 27 lines. Gothic type 1:103. 2- and 5-line initial spaces, rubricated in red and blue with Lombard initials, red capital strokes and one blue paragraph mark. (Light browning and staining.) Modern vellum. Provenance: early ink marginalia (ownership inscription on first blank cropped) -- Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate; purchased from Maggs Bros., London, 17 November 1941) -- donated to SMS 1942.
FIRST EDITION, and the only separate edition published in the 15th century. One of the early writings of St. Augustine, written in Rome soon after his conversion.
