PETRUS COMESTOR. Scolastica historia. Basel: [Johann Amerbach] after 25th November 1486.
2o (293 x 210mm). Collation: a b8 c-h8.6 i6 k-p8.6 q-s6 t8 v x6 z6 A B C-G.H8 I II K6. 230 leaves, including final blank. 46 lines and head-line. Gothic type 1:185 (title, head-lines), 5:106 (headings), 3:92a* (text). Capital spaces, with printed guide-letters. (A few leaves evenly browned, scattered worming at front and back). Contemporary German blind-stamped calf over beveled wooden boards, brass clasps and catches (quite worn, spine partly covered with paper, lacks catches). Provenance: Seminary of Saint Mary of the Barrens (mandorla-shaped bookplate).
The British Museum Catalogue speculates, on the basis of the types, and the fact that no copy was given by Amerbach to the Basel Charterhouse (his habitual practice), that the book may have been printed by another printer using types discarded by Amerbach.
