Two parts in one volume, 4o (200 x 152 mm). Engraved title. Section title to Gothicum glossarium. (A few leaves with some pale marginal dampstaining, generally fine.) Contemporary mottled calf, spine gilt (hinges a bit weak). Provenance: armorial bookplate with motto: "Ein Doe and Spair Not." -- W.W. Greg, Park Lodge (signature dated 1921 on front flyleaf) -- Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate; purchased from Maggs Bros., London, 17 November 1941) -- donated to SMS 1942.

FIRST EDITION of the Bible in Gothic, second edition in Anglo Saxon. "Beyond their interest to the student of textual criticism, these fragments [in Gothic] possess special value for the philologist as preserving what is 'by several centuries the oldest specimen of Teutonic speech'" (Darlow & Moule 1604 and 4557).
