2o (268 x 177 mm). Collation: +2 (table, misbound); A-G8; a-o8 p6 q-z \\i \\j aa-zz \\i\\i 8 \\j\\j \\g\\g6. 458 leaves (of 460; lacking A1 and G8 blank). Inserted full-page Saints in Glory woodcut (repeated on recto and verso) at front (Hodnett 237). Woodcut illustrations in text, several woodcut initials, black printed Lombard initials throughout. Woodcut printer's device at end. (First three text leaves with inner margins renewed, +1-2 with repaired tears crossing text, f3 with small abrasion affecting a few letters, y5-6 with irregular pale stain, final leaf with portions of lower and fore-margins renewed.) Modern brown gilt-panelled morocco, edges gilt, by Riviere. Provenance: W. L. Andrews (bookplate) -- Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate; purchased from A.S.W. Ninth edition in English, SCARCE. The full-page woodcut which appears at the beginning of this copy was first used in Caxton's edition of the Golden Legend of after 20 November 1483. All of the early editions in English of the Golden Legend by Caxton and de Worde are scarce. Only six other copies are recorded of the present edition: British Museum (imperfect), Cambridge Unversity, Squance Library, Durham (imperfect) John Rylands, Huntington and Harvard College. STC 24879.
