2 volumes, 12o (180 x 110 mm). (Some light spotting as usual, some very pale dampstaining at beginning of vol. I.) Original purple muslin, printed paper labels on spines (spines and labels a bit faded and rubbed, covers soiled, two small punctures on covers of vol. I). Provenance: L.B. Crodier, Oswego (contemporary signature on title of vol. II) -- Frederick W. Skiff (bookplate) -- Estelle Doheny (paper bookplate).

FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, with the Fagan-Ashmead imprint on the verso of the title-pages. The Deerslayer is the first in the Leathstocking series, depicting Natty Bumpo as a young man, although it was the last to be published. BAL 3895; Wright 1:601. (2)
