Lot Essay

This impressive pair of mirrors is inspired by rococo designs made famous through pattern books such as Thomas Chippendale's 'The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director', the first edition of which was published in 1745 (see plate CXLI) and also Matthias Lock's 'The New Book of Ornaments' of 1752 (see plate 3).
