Lot Essay

Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910) is particularly well known for his equestrian groups and his large scale sculpture. He became a member of the Paris Academy in 1892, having exhibited at the Salon since 1843. He was also made an Honorary member of the Royal Academy eight years later. His final honour was his appointment to succed Barye as professor of animal drawing at the Natural History Museum.
