CIRCA 1846, LONDON, GEORGE BAXTER

A series of concentric circles representing the sun and planetary orbits are employed in The Newtonian System of the Universe, one of a group of astronomical engravings intended to demonstrate that the earth is at the center of the universe. George Baxter used his oil-color printing technique for these planetary charts by Isaac Frost, an artist and scientist associated with a Victorian sect known as the Muggletonians.
